It's a tricky one to be honest. You're absolutely right that a vigorous fermentation can generate up to 2ºc above ambient ... but to do that it has to be vigorous and I think at 8ºc it will be anything but :-)I have brewed my first 2 gallon lager 3 days ago and there both in the fridge bubbling away , I am trying to ferment at 10c should i set my fridge temperature to 8c to account for any heat from the fermentation process?
i used lager yeast and about 2 and half grams of yeast in 1 gallon demijohn, packet said 10c to15c but my fridge with only do 2c to 8c or just 17c , so i have been switching between 8c to 17c to keep it round the 10c and 12c which is a pain .Thats seem a little low temp even for lager, what temp did it say on the yeast packet to use it between also if using lager yeast at the lower end of the scale you should think about using 2 packets but seen as it is only a 3 gallon batch you would possibly get away with 1 packet
its my fridge it only has 2c to 8c and a 17c have to keep changing it round to get 10c and 12c which is a painIt's a tricky one to be honest. If it were me I'd start it off at 10ºc and keep an eye on it.
its Lallemand lager yeast diamondTough call that one. Do you know the specific variety of yeast?
thanks this is what i need ! going to try and get a fast delivery .If its a dedicated brew fridge you need a Inkbird type temp controller and a small tube heater to sort the temp control out. There are plenty of Youtube vids and its a easy sort.
The yeast may produce some fermentation heat but your fridge will cool it down to the fridge temp anyway so control is the way forward
