I was given a bag of hops yesterday. I think they might not be in the best of nick...

They smell like hops, we think they're fuggle but am I looking at dead ones or should I lash them in the freezer and give them a whirl?

I think that once like a day has passed the hops turn brown like yours
i have dried out brown hops from before but they lack a lot of aroma compared to the green ones from the same vine.

TBH I think that they should be used wet straight from the vine green
or dried immediately when green
i haven't used the dried brown ones i have
But I just did a smell test for you to compare
so probably usable
i was told fresh hops do not carry much in bugs and stuff when fresh something to do with the properties of the plant
well i never found anything visible in the hops that looked harmful to me so bunged some into me black brew

Hmmm, yes, they do look quite a lot past it don't they...

I'll make sure the donor has proper instructions for next year! :thumb:
