Well I was asked a question I wasn't prepared for.

I got home, walked into the kitchen, and Darling Daughter asked if I liked her new dress.

I said no.

Well I thought she was wearing it for a bet, how was I to know it was a serious question?

In a size 10 it would probably look very sexy, but she's not a size 10, and in an 18 it looked hideous.

Still, after some tears and tantrums it seems that DD and wife might try to do something about their weights, again, which can only be a good thing.

I was a fat b4$t$rd this time last year but I've now lost almost 3 stones, so if I can do it I don't see why they can't.

don't you just love parenting skills.......

Honed to perfection over the years...lol

iv learnt when it comes to things like fashion "no comment" works well in all cases . i have no fashion sense(jeans, tee's and cat boots) so my opinion of fashion is not worth much so why ask :hmm:

Better coming from a parent than a crowd at school.
I am sure she'll thank you in the very very very distant future.

If you can't be honest with her Ade who can? As Tankboi says, better coming from you than a group of horrible teenagers who will be awful about it!

I always try to be honest with my W&D but do it as gently as possible - "It doesn't really suit your shape".

Thankfully as I am complimentary about the things that do look good, they seem to accept my honesty when the response isn't as good...

But no point in lying and saying something looks good when it doesn't. I'm just glad I don't get the "does my bum look big in this" as my missus has quite an, erm, shapely (yes, that's the word  ) rear, so she knows it probably does anyway!

I tell swmbo she can have it one of two ways

A husband that tells her what she wants to her (yep you got it a fabrication of the truth)

Or

A honest husband that tells her the truth

She still hasn't told me what one she want though :hmm: :wha:

I find it easiest to play safe, never fully commit to an actual answer, because the minute I do it's the wrong answer :(

Having said that, if I don't like what the wife is wearing I just tell her, saves a row later when one of her friends points out her outfit looks hideous :D

How are we ever supposed to improve anything if we lie and say everything is good?
It's like anything, a cook could make the same crappy meal for 20 years and politeness would prohibit changing it into something good.

As with anything "good" is subjective, but don't expect someone to lie about you so you can protect your self conceived notions of having a healthy body image.
Either you're comfortable with being a meater or you aren't, I'm fat, if someone calls me a fat bar stuard I don't get offended I just say "You're right".

Can't be doing with all this women's logic man.
