I seem to be struggling with this geordie Yorkshire bitter. I under primed it last week at 60g a few hours later i added another 25g all seemed fine i opened the cap of my barrel to a hissss added the sugar problem solved. It's been standing at room temp for a week, today i moved it to a cool place and thought I'll just see how the carbonation is going and draw off a tumbler. It's flat. Very. I turned the tap off before it started to gurgle and draw in air. My question is. Do i inject some gas into the barrel or is it wasted.
The cap on top is lubricated and tightened hand tight. Or is yet another barrel wasted :(

Regards.

If you can dump some Co2 into your barrel do so quick, you don't want any air getting in there. You must keep a layer of gas over the brew. This will then help when you pull a pint and also give you a head on your pint, if only for a short time.

Cheers mate checked it today and it's gone flat again. I changed the washer in the cap just in case put some more gas in and it's lasted 6 hours up to now.
I'm really pissed off now. It tastes ok and it's improving on quality from Sunday so it's not gone off.

You don't need me to tell you that the barrel as a leak. I had plastic ones when I started brewing years back, never any good I found that why I now use cornies. :thumb:

Found and solved the problem. It was the valve that was leaking. I got a new one from Wilkies 19 quid yesterday while i was in town gassed it up last night and it's lasted. So after replaceing a washer using 3 sparklets i thought spend 19 quid and hope or down the drain it goes. I'v only had the old valve about a year too and they aint cheap.

Just looking around on t web looks likw Wilkinsons have taken me to the cleaners re 2" cap with valve. I only buy my home brew stuff from the lhbs as a rule but was in town and was my last chance to save my brew.

Well done with finding the leak, now you've found out that it pays to shop around. When you think about it £19 is a lot for what it is.. :hmm:
