Well I've just filled my new flash chiller up with water and it's currently on the table making a racket.

My question is, when it's up (or down) to temp, will the fan stay on or will it turn on and off depending on the thermostat? I've been told they're noisy, just wondering if they're constantly noisy.

When mine are down to temp they are quiet, the only noise comes from the python recirculating pump which I could disconnect but I don't as I hapen to use it. From time to time the compressor kicks in and make a bit of a noise.

Excellent. Mine doesn't have a recirc pump (yet, I have a spare line I'm going to fit a small pump to), but at least that means I can keep it in the drinking room without SWMBO complaining (more).

Hooked mine up for the first time properly yesterday. Worked out which way is the coldest fairly quickly! It got my Ale down to 2c when left to get started for about 20 minutes...too cold! I left it to it's own devices and it turned itself off and isn't coming on currently. A temperature check of reservoir shows it to still be 2c..does this mean it will only start cooling again once it gets above this temperature?

I'm only familiar with the bigger Pub chillers and those things always seem to be on ...not that you can tell with all the flojets blasting and the fans whirring.

Yep, they have a baseline temperature which when reached kicks the fridge part of it in. My single-coil chiller kicks in about once every five minutes and stays on for perhaps 40 seconds. Pulling a pint is usually enough to get it to kick in too so you can imagine that in a pub enviroment, even the bigger chillers are going to be running a lot.

Correctamundo Parva.

I'd finished using it yesterday and pulled my lines through with water so i didn't want to check it by pulling a pint through. It had got back up to about 10c this morning and it kicked in first time. Don't no why I ever doubted her!

That's one less thing the better half has to complain about though if it's reducing it's noise by itself. That said I tightened the casing and the loud rattling has become a fairly fridge-like murmur which is pleasing.
