I just got delivery of one of Muddydisco's False Bottoms for my Nordic 50 litre thermobox, and I'm very pleased with the quality. I want to connect this to a ball valve on the pot and I was hoping to reuse my ball valve from the previous coolbox. I got this from ebay:

I drilled a 22mm hole through both walls and slotted the tap through, only to discover that the threaded tank connector is not long enough, so not enough thread comes past the inside wall to connect it.

I'm wondering what options I have to either modify the existing fitting or get a new one? Can I get a longer tank connector or should I be looking on the likes of bes.co.uk to replace the whole thing - if so what fittings would I need?

You need to make a bigger hole on the outside skin and insulation - big enough to get the flange through and then make the seal on the inside skin only, otherwise you'll get wort pissing out everywhere.

You'll still need to make the hole bigger on the outside. You're trying to seal it between the two walls and using the insulation as the seal which will collapse as you tighten it.

The hole on the outside needs to be big enough to pass the whole tank connector through until it seals on the inside wall.

Thanks guys, that makes sense, looks like I'll have to make the outside hole bigger. I might fill the outer hole with JB weld stick or similar so I can get a pilot hole drilled for the larger hole.
