Hi All,
From some post I have read it seems a lot of people have fitted taps to their FV's. Some help please.
Whats the best type of tap to use?
What should be the height from bottom of the FV?
Do you need any additional tubing inside to prevent the slurry at the bottom getting pulled out?
Secondly
After I have finished fermenting my first 2 kits, I would like to do an extract kit. Can this be done in a large stock pot on the stove? Or would I be better making a boiler out of an FV and kettle elements.
Also any other kit you can advise getting to make the job easier and final result better :drink:
I am thinking ahead as well as at some point I may try my hand at AG brewing
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks
Nic

Having a tap fitted to the FV means no syphoning as I'm sure you've read :thumb:
As for the tap type, I don't think it matters so long as you can fit a decent length of tubing to it, you will want to run the fermented beer down the tube into the next vessel to avoid oxidation.
The tap needs to be positioned as low down the vessel as possible, you will of course either need to make sure that it is not too low that you cannot sit the FV on a flat surface or accept that it will need to hang off of the edge of a table etc ;)
As for an extract kit, yes you can make beer successfully using a large stock pot on a stove :thumb: but if you are considering going AG in the future and feel confident in making your own boiler, then it will be better to go that route

Thanks TS think I might try my first one on the hob and make a boiler when I've got better use of my right hand I'd probably do bugger up my other hand if I tried it at the moment and then how would I hold a pint
