Evening all,

I'm 21 and was lucky enough to receive a home brewing kit off my dear mother for Christmas this year.

I've just set my first brew on the go fermenting and so from now until the first fermentation stage is complete I have a couple of queries that I'm curious about:

- The bucket is a standard 25 litre with a snap lid, no airlock like I seem to see on the majority of researching. The instructions say to just place the lid on top.
Will this method alter the outcome, would anyone recommend one with an airlock over this or is it down to personal preference?

- Is stirring necessary from now until fermented? I imagine it isn't but being the child I am; I am dying to go and play with my new toy.

Any kind (even unkind I just want interaction) words welcome

Cheers guys!

Hi and welcome. Don;t worry about an air lock, I've never used one just leave the lid loose. Should be no need to stir, just leave it to do it's thing.

I've never used an airlock either, I just snap the lid all the way around and then lift up a little bit to allow co2 to escape. Good luck with your first brew :thumb: Best thing is to get another brew on as soon as you have this one bottled :D

If this is a youngs bucket the lids aren't totallly airtight, you will find the lid bulges a bit but lets some gas escape enough to stop it going bang!

Cheers all, appreciate the responses!
First brew is a learning curve, things get serious after that

I'm afraid your mother has introduced you into a world, from which you can never truly leave. Beer will never taste the same again!! But it sure is fun!
