Hi all.
I've just looked at my first attempt at a home brew kit and am after some advice.

It's a wherrey kit and it's been in the fv for 2weeks.

I've just lifted the lid and it looks and smells like beer but I'm unsure if it's right. I've attached a picture. If there are still lumps of yeast in the top. Is this usual?

I've also tried to measure the strength but it looks lower than the box says it should be.

What should I do? Stir it? I leave it in the fv a little longer? I stir it?

Help!

Itn looks ok but the gravity is a little high at the moment. Give it a gentle swirl and leave for a few more days.

I'm not familiar with that style of hydrometer, but the beer looks fine (to be pedantic, since yeast is a single cell organism, short of a lab test, I've no idea how you know that's yeast on the top  )

If the hydrometer reading stays stable for 3 days, you know fermentation is over :thumb:

Yeast on top looks normal but I agree with PD, gravity looks a bit high. I reckon it's stuck and could do with a mix to rouse the yeast. What temp has it been at?

Hi guys. I thanks for the advice. I It's been in my kitchen in South East London so temperature around 20 degrees. Dropping to around 17 today.
I've given it a very gentle stir and will check it again in a couple of days.

I'll keep you posted.

Thank you

As others have said it does sound like you have a stuck fermentation, there's a 'how to' thread here that you might find useful.

I had a stuck ferment with another Woodfordes kit - the gentle stir and a slight increase in temp did it for me.
