Apologies if I am repeating questions already asked.....

I have just bottled my first homebrew - Youngs Bitter kit from Wilkos. I have made adding sugar and then bottled and added 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to each bottle. My worry is the bottled brew so far looks VERY cloudy and I had a little taster and it didn't really taste great. Will the beer clear during the second fermentation process and will its taste vastly improve?

I have just bought a John Bull Indian Pale Ale kit with Beer Enhancer and Extra Hopps Enhancer ready for my next beer. I love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Anchor Liberty Pale Ale so this is my first attempt and getting close...ish. I am sure it will take a few (hundred) attempts and will involve more than just ready made beer kits !!

Any extra advice much appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

The beer will clear rapidly in bottle, normally. Perhaps you syphoned in too much sediment from the FV?
Also, taste will improve - first of all with carbonation and then by maturing.
It won't take 100s of kits or brews to get to a good beer - simple things like good sanitation, being organised when making up the brew, keeping records and most important: Patience! Don't lift the lid every day to check the gravity. Let your beer mature. All very simple things really ...

Welcome to the forum!

Yeah it should clear in time. You will need to keep it somewhere warm for a few weeks then get it somewhere cold. I have not done this kit so can't comment on it but as long as it is drinkable, chalk this one up to experience & get another brew on :thumb:

Generally, the two can premium kits produce a better beer but they are more expensive. You can start using bke or brewing sugar rather than normal sugar which can produce better results.

Welcome to the forum

When bottling, unless you've added finings (which your kit wouldn't include), your beer is going to be very cloudy. I think Joey should have said it should then be kept at room temperature for a few days before trying to find somewhere slightly cooler for storage.

Ideally, a basic kit brew like that should still be kept for at least a month, by which time it should be properly cleared and nicely carbonated.

And yes, the taste should improve considerably, but a one-can kit plus a bag of sugar is never going to win any prizes.

It'll be fine!

I'm presuming it's a Youngs Harvest Bitter - my first one too! It'll clear after a couple of days but leave it the hell alone for a good month! It gets much, much better with time. I polished most of mine off too quick - there are three left getting saved for a rainy day!

Oops, thanks for pointing that out Moley, I really should check what I have written before posting
