Hi there my name is martin i am new to home brewing beer and lager but not new to home brewing.I have being making wines and spirits for several years now with good results.I have all the basic equipment and have just started off my first beer kit but am unsure about the next steps from bucket to barrel ect.I have joined this site to see if i can pick up any good advice thank you. When beer stops fermenting do you syphon off the sediment or stir it up and syphon all liquid into barrel?

Welcome to the forum...

Once your beers stopped fermenting which you can verify with a hydrometer then you syphon off the beer into the barrel leaving behind all the sediment and sludge in the fermenter...

If it's a 5 gallon plastic barrel prime it by adding 80 grams of sugar dissolved in a little boiling water to the barrel first then syphon in the beer. Seal the top with a smear of vaseline on the seal in the cap. Keep the barrel in a warm place for a week or so to let the priming sugar carbonate the beer. Then put the barrel in a cool place for a few weeks to condition...

Job Done !

Hi and welcome ,and much better results will be achieved if you prime with dried malt extract, gives a better finer head to your beer

No need to add to what Strangebrew has posted other than to say try beer enhancer, glucose/spraymalt instead of sugar, if you haven't done so already, in your next brew if you need to add sugar. I find it makes a big difference to the body and flavour. Welcome to the forum.
