Hello gents,

Going to try my hand at brewing a dark (yes I know it's technically brown) beer. Never made one before...

Porter
1.050 OG; 27IBU's; 47EBC; 5.1%

4kg Maris Otter
0.5kg Caramalt
0.3kg Chocolate Malt

Mash 75 mins @ 66C
Mashout 10 mins @ 76C

60 mins - 18g Chinook
15 mins - 1/2 Whirlfloc Tablet

Yeast - Safale S-04

Ferment 19.5C for two weeks
Cold crash and fine with gelatin
Keg for 7 days at 15PSI (2.5vols) then pressurise to 30PSI and store in the garage for a couple of months.

Thoughts on the recipe and process guys, anything to add or change?

Cheers:cheers3:

I will be brewing my first porter on Boxing Day....

OG 1.055 32 IBU, 63 EBC, 10L BIAB

1.8kg Maris Otter
200g Brown Malt
200g Crystal 70L
170g Chocolate Malt

mash 67C for 60 mins

35g Fuggles 30 mins
10g Fuggles 10 mins

Yeast = Crossmyloof Real Ale

Ferment at 20C for 2 weeks then into bottles. Hoping for about 5.5% ABV

Maybe a bit more traditional porter recipe than yours. I'm sticking with English hops 'cos it's what I know and have in stock. Why did you choose the Chinook hops ?

Nice one @Brewed_Force - two of us having a first go!

Like you, I went with what I have in stock. I don't actually have any English hops. As its just one 60 minute addition, there won't be any flavour from the hops anyhow. So I'm led to believe...

We should swap when they're done!
