I am new to brewing using AG, my first brew went okay I think but only time will tell,but I lost a lot of temp from the mash tun to the brew barrel should I make the filter larger

Don't matter that much once the mash is done but the more heat you can retain the better.

+1 for this, if your temp is constant for the mash this is all that matters, it will drop filtering it to the boiler but your gonna boil it anyway just make sure you have adequate insulation on your mash tun and boiler, this will help retain heat and save you money
