Hi All,

New here

Put my first brew on last night at 8.30pm, its a starter kit and I am using a kit called Woodforde's Norfol Wherry - I made a small mistake by not putting the contents of the cans in to the bucket first, but everything else was done in the correct order.

Now, my concern is have I messed it up? There is no real sign of fermentation as yet, just a very think white layer on top, its so thin you can see through it..

How long does it take for it to start properly or should it have started alread?

Thanks

Scott

Hi Shandy & Welcome :thumb:

It can take 24hrs for fermentation to start.

Tips to get a good start to fermentation :

Aerate the wort well with lots of stirring
Use a yeast starter
Keep the fermenter at the correct temp 18c to 20c

A yeast starter is basically starting the yeast off fermenting a couple of days before you make the beer up. You do this by making a small quantity of wort (500ml) using spray malt (DME) and adding your died yeast to this get the yeast active so it's going to hit the ground running when you pour that into your wort.
