well as the title says really, Ive cracked my first Young's brew buddy lager, I'm not sure what to make of it but its only been in the bottle 2 week.... initial 2 weeks in the warm to carb up, will be moved to a cooler place and hidden away tomorrow hopefully it will get better with time

its fizzyish that's good, its darker than expected taste OK no off flavours or anything zero head at all though and a bit aley - the yeast I expect

anybody else done this kit?

I found it ok the longer I left it. What did you make it with? Sugar, beer enhancer or mixture? That could account for it being darker

One of these was my first kit I did, got another one on today (stocked up as they are £7.97 at Tesco with an FV!). I would describe it as more of a halfway house between a light ale (say a Whitstable bay) and a Lager as we would buy in a pub. I prefer ales so I was happy with it! Found it very easy drinking. If I was a hardened Lager drinker I may think differently but I'm not LOL.

I only ever did a lager with brew enhancer once and that was the last time, IMO lager should be done with just sugar/brewing sugar as to me it was a halfway taste between ale and lager.
To get better results use a proper lager yeast and try to keep it between 12 - 18 degsC (not easy at the moment)

Hi hollow legs,

did you find once you returned to normal brewing sugar, the lager was more lager colour and flavour? If I'm honest I think until winter sets in fermenting at such low temperatures is going to be very difficult without a temperature controlled cabinet.

Regards

Carl
