I’m having my first go at AG brewing this weekend and I think i’ve got most things figured out (fingers crossed!).

But I’m not sure whether I should be adding hops in hop bags so they can be removed or just loose so they stay in throughout fermentation as well?

Any advice?

Thanks

What is your setup? Normally a whirlpool to create a trub and hop cone is done before you draw clear wort from the kettle to your FV. Of course, a hop strainer over the tap inlet on your kettle helps as well.

It’s just going to be biab. I was just going to pour it into the fv but I suppose I could syphon it if that would be better?

I'm also doing my first AG brew this weekend. I'm intending to filter the lot through muslin cloth strapped over the FV. As long as its strapped right it aught to work I hope.

If your pouring it in I guess it's a small batch, just use a sieve to remove most of the hops.
5 gallon. Reckon that’d be okay to pour? Do you think it would be easier to use hop bags then if the hops are supposed to be removed?

5 gallon is quite a lot to pour. I would suggest to put hops in a bag and then remove just before you pour. Less things to worry about as you handle your boiler full of wort.

Is it ok to pour? depends on your physical abilities and if you can get a good grip on your boiler. I would suggest to practice with water first :)

Sounds like a recipe for a pulled back and a sticky floor, just do a gravity transfer (of some or all) into the FV, before pouring a more manageable amount.

How Do Pit Creature,
I'd suggest letting the hops roam free in the boil , and stand the copper 1/2 hour at the end of the boil , then cool ( medium slow run off from the copper) ,
Hope that helps ,
Cheers

Cheers. What do you mean by ‘copper’ though?
