I have used US-05 in my recent brew and I'm going to have to use finings I reckon. Most will go into a cornie and the rest will be bottled.

Question is, if I add the finings to the primary before kegging, will the yeast that settles out in the bottles still ferment out the dextrose I'll add to the remaining bottled stuff for carbonation purposes? I force carbonate the cornie.

ALso, I've heard of 'fluffy bottoms' - how does this work in a bottle, sounds far from ideal.

Haven't used finings before so not sure.

Cheers

From my experience I wouldn't bother adding to the primary. I've done it this way and the ruddy US 05 continued to send trails up to the top of the fv, totally overwhelming the finings, in fact negating the addition.
Can you cool the primary to get some of the yeast to drop before racking, or have you got the ability to secondary with the finings?
If not I'd say rack to corny and then add finings, rack to bottle without finings, or rack to corny add finings then rack to bottles.
There will still be enough yeast in suspension even after fining. If you heavily dose with finings there will still be some yeast, it will just mean the beer will take longer to carbonate.

US 05 is very efficient, but it doesn't like to leave it's sugary party early

This is assuming this is a quick drinking beer, not a keeper.

Cheers Vossy - I'll get it in the fridge over the weekend and leave for a few days. Then I'll rack to Cornie and put the finings in there. I'll leave the bottled stuff without finings I think and give it time.

Cheers for the help!
