Very useful :thumb: and of course these dry yeasts are best used by rehydrating first, do not make a starter with them

You are correct Rich; yes best practice is to rehydrate with cooled boiled water, at the temperature Fermentis recommends, this is done a short while before pitching. A starter would be adding it to some wort a day or so before using, and this then uses up the inbuilt reserves of the dry yeast, and you end up pitching an underperforming starter into you wort which will have to work hard to get up to speed, resulting in a longer lag time.
