23l brew length

90 minute mash
3.8kg Maris Otter
250g Cara Red (50)
150g Crystal (120)
80g Roasted Barley (1400)

90 minute boil
40g East Kent Goldings (90m)

Whitelabs WLP004

According to Beer Calculus, this should finish on 1042 OG, 24 EBC and 26 IBU.

I'm aiming for a fairly mild session ale with a nice reddish colour. Has anyone tried something similar?

Ive never used cara red myself, looks good to me though. Should be a lovely colour

No, it's an interesting one I found when browsing online so thought I'd buy a small 500g bag of it. I've used half in a continental ale a month or so ago but that's not yet ready for drinking.

I've only used carared the once but I don't remember it having a dramatic impact.

I think the mix of crystal and a touch of roasted barley hopped with EKG will make for a nice beer. I've never used wlp004 but it sounds like it would be good for that sort of beer.

Hope it goes well :)
