Favourite TV comedies - 70/80’s

TBF the final series is worth it just for the clip of Trump on the telly talking about building the wall, and Lucille (I think) shouting “that was our idea” at the TV. I actually also think I’m alone in thinking that season 4 had some cracking moments too - the “Daddy’s got to get his rocks off” scene in particular had me wetting myself with laughter.

I think Father Ted and the Inbetweeners will always be my favourites.

More recently, “Life in Pieces” was criminally under rated - very well written with a great set of characters and very funny. At times like the characters Greg and Jen were a little too real - at some points they basically were me and my wife.

I’ve just realised I didn’t mention Early Doors. It’s up there with Father Ted for me, probably my all time favourite British sitcom. Great cast, great characters (and character development over the 2 series’), very good script. Another one that flew under a few radars as it was on BBC2 midweek.

Red Dwarf, Blackadder, The Young Ones, Bottom, Father Ted & The IT Crowd. The latter two being the only comedy shows that have actually had me in hysterics for many years.

I bought my dad 2 tickets to the live show for his birthday that year. He took my mum with him

But why are comedy repeats either so old they are just not relevent, or only for the over 80's. Or there of things that were withing the last few years anyway.

No wonder we whinge about the bbc, when it only ever repeats dads army & open all hours as classic comedy.
No python or goodies from that era, or anything between then and outnumbered/not going out.

They could even have a historical comedy slot that would show things that didn't get a 2nd series - some must be so bad they could build up a cult following

I would assume something obscure and complicated regarding rights normally seems to be the cause of the issue.

All the Blackadder series, but especially Blackadder Goes Forth. Absolutely superb comedy.

Series 2 for me. Has aged extremely well.

Father Ted, still game, Rab c. I used to watch steptoe and son a long time with my father.
The problem with old comedian's they are not politically correct. They may offend some people now. Savage eye on RTE really push the boundaries

Back in the day it was both shocking and funny, if you had asked me what was the funniest moment from TYO i would have said the white mouse sketch at the party,(see below) i remember being in tears watching it now a small smirk nothing more, times change.

From the 70's The Goodies was probably my favourite, I'm glad one person mentioned it. From the 80's, Red Dwarf just beats Fools & Horses for me. More recent sitcoms, League of Gentlemen, Men behaving badly, Still Game, Early Doors and Detectorists.

So many, Man about the house, On the buses, Alf Garnet, Citizen Smith, Monkey, Some mothers, Bless this house, Falty Towers, Terry and June, Perrin, Rising Damp, George and Mildred, Dont drink the water, Rentaghost, Robins Nest, Love thy neighbour, Shelley, Porridge and Sykes. Probably all 70's shows, i did like Men behaving badly though and Harry Enfield. Comedy has never been the same since.
