I recieved four bottles of local beer from the exeter brewery at christmas, I`ve tried a couple on cask before so thought i`d review the bottles :thumb: All bottle conditioned.

First up is the ferryman, a classic best bitter, golden amber and english goldings hops....

Opened with a very slight hiss, if I hadn`t poured it a little roughly it wouldn`t have had any head at all, it soon dissapearead and was almost flat - seemed slightly underconditioned / primed? At 4.2% its easily drinkable - no massive malt or hop flavour but nicely balanced all the same with a good bitterness, I was a little dissapointed and would prefer a little more hop flavour and aroma. :) Next up will be the avocet - had this and enjoyed it on cask so fingers crossed :drink:

Avocet ale next, pale straw colour with a light citrus taste.......

Quite a small beer, 3.9% again opened with quite a small hiss, seemed lively but no real head. Good golden colour but again not much aroma. Clean hoppy taste with good bitterness and very refreshing - could easily sink a few of these chilled a little on a summers day. I get citrus in the smell and a very faint lime or grapefruit flavour - would be interesting to find out what hops they use for this one :D on balance an enjoyable pint - not as good as the cask but still a fine brew :thumb:

Chocolate stout and county best tommorrow....

County Best was pretty simular to the ferryman, maybe a little more body and hop but not much :)

So the stout, darkness....the prince of ales.....5.1%

Poured with a nice tight head, creamy and full of body. Sweet then bitter but smooth and refined with no real bitter aftertaste - not sure if that is good or bad as i`m not a huge stout drinker (something i aim to work on though ;) ) Lovely pint - easily the best of the four - would buy this one again but not the others unless I saw them on cask.

:drink:

Cor! I'm on a bit of a stout mission myself at the moment, so I'll give this a try methinks. Good review; shame about the first one being underwhelming...Do you reckon you'll feed this back to them?
