so heard on a podcast this morning about temp variations in thermometers. it got me thinking about the accuracy of the temp control in various all in one units. has anyone tested their mash temps before to confirm the accuracy? any variations? I think I will test it out this weekend.

Mine reads 1.5 C too low at all temperatures (room temp, mashing and boil)
I checked it against 2 other thermometers, one digital and one glass and upped the machine by +1.5 C in the setttings.
what do you have?

Does your system have a re-circulation pump, without recirculation mash temperature will vary between top and bottom in any heated mash tun unless you stir it regularly and every time the heater comes on.
I use an electric mash kettle, I monitor the top of the mash with a decent quality calibrated thermometer, it takes a few minutes of circulation and stirring until it settles down and I can find the best setting on the kettle thermometer which is mounted at the bottom.

yes I have a braumeister and a robobrew. I can test it pretty easily on the recirc flow on the robobrew or the top of the braumeister. definitely going to see if there is a larger variance over a couple of brews. the temp probe for the robobrew is really small but the braumeister is much more robust which hopefully is more accurate as I tend to brew on that one 10 out of 11 brews.
