Harry Kane and sterling are in the top 3 in the premier League for diving. Stick Salah on that list as well.
The difference is they get away with it because they are English.

Kane is not a diver - never has been. He just holds the ball up very well and uses his body to protect it - consequently, he is constantly battered from behind. Poor penalty aside, he was absolutely brilliant last night.

Absolutely. Kane is 'clever' (I do use that term loosely) at drawing fouls, but he gets plenty of treatment from defenders.

I like I say don't hate the players hate the game.. the game is deisgned around letting them do that. I know it is easy to single out Sterling on this occasion but I think most footballers would have behaved the same way in that situation.

I fully get the notion he went down for the penalty Leon and I agree, it doesn;t feel quite as satisfying winning that way but it happens in every game , Portugal beating France, France looked well out of it Mbappe one of the worlds young superstars took a dive got a pen and France drew.

And do not get me started on Neymar.

Technology should exist to bring the game out of the dark ages somewhat but my perception is there is a lot of reisstance to do so. resistance to input detterants or change the game. I personally believe it is a blight on the game and the sport would be far more attractive if it didn;t have so much of it in it, But I think I am in a minority in that view

I hate the theatrics as much as anyone but you'd be a fool not to take a tumble in the box if you're hopelessly outnumbered and feel a nudge in the back. Why not gamble for a penalty?

The free kick the Danes scored from was about as deserving as our penalty, and Schmichael did a great job of saving most of our shots on goal but England were the better team at the end of the day.

That said I'd probably rate Schmichael over Pickford if it had gone to a shootout.

It was never a penalty and VAR should have overruled it.
But, we were the better side and deserved to win that game.

And yet, despite all the complaints about diving, the sport has largely (although of course not entirely) eliminated the frankly thuggish fouling that disfigured the international game a few decades ago. Which has made it a much better watch.

Why are we English so negative even when we win. We are still analysing Geoff Hurst's second goal in 1966 final. The penalty yesterday was given we scored and won so rejoice.

I'm not sure the technology exists. When you're running at full pelt, it doesn't take much to put you off balance - the slightest touch will do it. Even with slow motion replays, it's almost impossible to make that call.

I'd liken it to LBW decisions in cricket. When they check whether or not the ball has touched the bat before hitting the pad, it's done by sound and there's a clear visual indication on the screen. Some contacts in the box in football are every bit as slight, but there's no other way of doing it other than 'experts' sitting in a room analysing the video. It's imperfect, but I'm not sure there's much that can improve it.

All this said, I fully agree that some players go down very easily.

They can change the VAR rule that allows them to over-rule for a clear and obvious mistake.
Create stricter rules around what a foul is. If you have to dive because of slight contact then that is not a foul in my book

I get that and I can agree but still someone obvioulsy dives why do they not penalise them after the game? and I was surprised that the VAR did not overrule the desicion? it should be more about coming to the right call.. I think it will get there in the end with that. All I was trying to say was it is imbred into the culture of the game and little is done to stamp it out or act as a detterrant.

Anyway enough of that I dont know why I got embroiled, we won a semi final of a major football championship and we have an international football final to look forward too, first time for most of us.

One concept that might be helpfully borrowed from cricket is the idea of "umpire's call" - rather than spend ages trying to achieve black-or-white certainty on an uncertain incident, they accept that things that are in a grey area according to the technology should just go with the original decision, save the technology for the obvious mistakes.

But the most necessary change to the rules of professional football is far more low-tech. Namely oven gloves. Or at least, force all outfield players to wear leather mittens. It would stop the epidemic of shirt-pulling that just shouldn't be part of the game.

Denmark were great, Schmeichel in particular was terrific - but at the same time they can hardly complain about a dodgy penalty when like most teams they are no strangers to the dark arts. If they behaved well then they would have a point, but if you play with fire you can't really complain about getting burnt sometimes.

I agree and the danes flopped to the floor at every given opportunity holding their heads like Joshua just gave them a haymaker. If we want to keep the game going escourt them safely off the field asap and keep the game going. They cannot return until at least 2 mins after an examination.. that will keep the rolling around in "pain" down a bit.. well something like that..

Rather annoyingly, a player is far more likely to win a free kick or penalty if they go down under a challenge, however slight, than if they stay on their feet. Until this changes, players will continue to go down on a whim.

Watch this from 12 seconds the defenders knee hits Sterlings it may be a soft penalty but their number 5 was no where near the ball and was never going to get it, i am not surprised VAR never overruled it.

Apparently, according to the rules of the game, the Danish goal shouldn’t have stood anyway so let’s call it quits eh.

Denmark formed their own wall and they slid over to England's defensive wall, blocking Jordan Pickford's view of Damsgaard's shot.
However, FIFA rules state: "Where three or more defending team players form a 'wall,' all attacking team players must remain at least 1 metre (1 yard) from the 'wall' until the ball is in play."

We are in the final that's all that counts there was contact and Sterling did what any other player would have done and went down, I don't care how soft the penalty is and I wonder if all the bitter people here calling him out for diving would have done the same has it been their player who did it.

As has also been said they cheated when they put their wall against ours so it's the right result.
