Evening all.

I'm a London Brewer so don't have too much space. I've been brewing kits for a while but would like to get into all grain and I would like suggestions of ways to do this on a small scale

I have decided i would like to brew 19 litre brews as i have the graham wheeler book that has all those recipes for this scale. Plus I can put brews straight into a corny

So as for a boiler, I'm fairly hand so wouldn't mind making one from a pot. I would like to boil on my gas hob if possible. If anyone has good suggestions for what to get for a 19 litre brew that would be lovely. I'm guessing I need a seperate HLT too (no way around that i suppose)

For sparging and fermenting I have a youngs fermenter which i can use. It also struck me that i could make a cooler and fermenter in one as it has enough space to possibly drill 2 holes in the top inbetween the handles and then have tubing passing through it immersion style

Hope this all makes sense. Would be great to be able to get a proper all grain system set up in my pokey flat. My kitchen is big enough but I don't have massive amounts of storage space :-)

Cheers

Edmund

I use a 30L electric boiler for BIAB, my brews come out at 19L, anywhere up to roughly 6% without adding more water or boiling off more. It doesn't take up much room, and it's easy! Literally all you need is the boiler, something to protect the bag from scorching, and a tap fitted so you don't burn yourself if you use the no chill method (decanting into a large jerry can, or in my case, a food safe FV and then cool in the bathtub.) I use hop bags so I don't need a hop filter, even though I own one (it sucks!)

Hi there and welcome,

You don't need separate HLT and kettle as lots of people use just the one boiler.
You can run off your wort from sparging into your FV then decant into your boiler when you've used your sparge water.

Have you thought about BIAB (Brew In A Bag)? With limited space this may be a good choice for you.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. :thumb:

Looks like Rob beat me to it

why not try BIAB ( brew in a bag ) its all grain brewing in a pot on your hob with the grain enclosed in a mesh bag....Very suitlable for folks short of space

oops Simon beat me...

Haha thanks guys. Cool I'll have a look at this Brew in the Bag stuff. Good to know that 30 litres is what i need. If i get a 30L cooking pot and attach a tap to it with my youngs fermenter and a sparging arm i should be super :-)

Thanks guys!

BIAB is definitely the way to go. As long as you can insulate the pot well you won't have to turn the heat on while mashing and so won't have to worry about scorching the bag.
