Well, I went to Edinburgh for the second time at the weekend, and it was great..

I did a few of the pubs that were recommended to me, and was able to buy a couple of beers to bring home from Brewdog (Punk IPA and Riptide), which I'm looking forward to trying at the weekend.

Sadly, the pub that was recommended to me as "the best in the city", was a bit disappointing to be fair, but it was close to Waverley Station, and the pub I enjoyed the most had no real ale at all (The Black Rose, Rose St -rock pub \m/ )

There were a fair few others that were good as well, and I was able to have some Dark Island, from Orkney brewery, which I haven't had for years, which was nice...

There's a pub on the corner outside Haymarket station that does loads of on tap real ales, also one down near my work that does a good selection, although its quite far off the normal beaten track for visitors.

Glad you enjoyed your trip in, its a lovely city (as cities go  )

Which was 'the best in the city'?
Guildford arms is quite close and has a good selection (if thats not the one you meant)
Down the road from the brewdog pub (towards parliament) is holyrood 9a. Have about 24 beers on tap.

I bought the Brewdog beers from Sainsburys! Didn't know there was a brewdog pub ! :(

The alleged "best in city" was the Halfway House, whereas it was ok, I've been in better !

Walked all the way to the Parliament Building, and wow ! Holyrood Park !!

We will have to find that Holyrood 9a next time we're up...

Did that used to be the Hollyrood Tavern?

Never heard of the Halfway House but then I haven't been up there for a good few years now and there are quite a lot of pubs...
