Just barreled my Wherry and looked at the rubber "O" ring on the cap.
It was a bit dented from the previous brew.
When I tried to seal it beer leaked out from the side of the cap.
After several tries with no success I shot down to the local brewing shop to get another rubber "O" ring.
To my surprise it would not seat in the cap propperly so I had to stretch it several times to make it fit.
The cap is now done up but to be honest I have no faith that it will seal properly.
It looks like it's time to ditch the economy and get another cornie.

I've had the same problem, and I know others have too. The lids/seals on the economy barrels seem to be the weak point.

I just bought another lid off eBay with a CO2 injector valve, now every time I fill it I give it a quick squirt of gas just to make sure it's sealed. I think I was doing the original one up way too tight and distorted/cross-threaded it. With a smear of vaseline and just hand-tight the new lid seals fine and has extended the life of the barrel. :D

Vaseline is the same thing :)

The keg I borrowed was covered in it and it worked like a charm :)

Haha yes you are very right but it's double to three times the price :p
