Hi everyone,
i read somewhere on the forum the other day that peple were having trouble removing bottle labels.
i find it really easy using this method.
1. Scrape label off using a glass/window scraper(It takes about 30 seconds).
2. wipe glue/label residue off with a rag with xylene on it,hardly any effort required
to leave a glue free bottle.Xylene is an industrial thinner and is really smelly so use it in a ventillated area.
3.Don't worry if you can't get xylene as Hammerite thinners is basically made up of xylene and is available in most diy shops
4.Carry on and wash and use bottles as normal.
hope this helps, Ken

Thanks, but if they don't float off in hot water (eg Magner's or Newky Brown) I really can't be bothered, they go straight back in the recycling.

No problem Moley but sometimes nice wine bottles are worth the small effort

My system is having a few large plastic boxes at the back of the house filled with water and sterilising powder. Stick them into there for a few days, labels generally unlabel themselves. Easy done. I normally have 6 to 18 in there ready to "go" as it would seem.

I wont go on and on, as i'm sure i hve seen similr thread before!?

I soak, then peel, any stubborn labels get the back of a knife, i then find white spirit takes the sticky residue off, which is sort of cheap, especially if you've got loads laying around at work......

I also find that for bottles with plastic labels on, a brief spell in a hot oven will make the labels and most of the residue come off quickly (also the skin on your fingertips after doing several  ). The key to it is keeping the label taught at about 45degrees to the bottle :thumb:

 CS
