I've done a few brews so far and all have been not bad for a starter. But I was recently told that during the first two days in the fermenting bin, I should spoon off all the rubbish that is gathering at the top and get rid of it whilst giving the brew a gentle stir to keep the yeast getting mixed up. From here I should transfer the brew to a second fermenter and add some finings. After a further 4 – 6 days, transfer it to a third vessel, add some more finings and the priming sugar and then bottle it.

Does this sound right or wrong to everyone???

Seems a lot more work than needed :!: I used to just put everything in a FV then after a week bottle it :!: This has been my first brew for a while (understatement) after the first week, untouched, I transferred to clean FV for second week, then the next day or so will be bottling :thumb:

Can't see any purpose or advantage of removing scum and stirring etc :!:

I've never done that and my beer is the second best beer in the world.

My tuppence worth

leave alone for 8 days use some gelatin finings then keg or bottle day 10.

but heck I only use the finings as I cornie and so force carbonate.

Wez is of course correct on both counts :thumb:
1. Leave the beer alone for 10 days at least after pitching the yeast, it will look after itself.
2. Wez's is the second best beer in the world 'cos mine's the best :P
