I know im going to get told off here :nono: but iv never dry hopped any of my brews, there Iv said it Iv come out  Iv been meaning to try it for some time now but what puts me off , & I think to be honest its a phobia of an infection that has stopped me, something Iv read & its stuck :hmm: So my question is really,,,,, Am I worrying about nothing & is there any evidence of possible infections due to dry hopping? or will the alchohol content preasent kill any nasties?,,,,Do I need counceling :??

I won't tell you off. :-) As a new brewer, you are told not to put anything into the beer that hasn't been sanitized to avoid infection. It seems counterintuitive to then throw dried vegetation into your beer!

However, the alcohol and the natural preservatives in the hops will keep it safe. Give it a shot! :thumb:

Absolutely! Give it a go, remember to sterilize all else though - anything that comes into contact with the beer - especially a hop bag if you use one. Boiling for 5 mins should do it!

Have fun.

I've been brewing for a good few years and I'm about to try dry hopping for the first time.

When are you going to put in the dry hops, and for how long? :wha:

Try about 10-20g per 5g batch for a week or so.

Certain hops, cascade for instance, can impart a grassy taste if left in for too long. Experimentation is the key, and let us all know.
