does anyone dry hop in a second fermenter? what can you tell me about this? should i taste it after first fermentation and add more if id like to? or would i not pick up all the hope flavors at that point ?
I do for my pale ales and AIPAs. I usually add an oz or two right into the secondary and let sit for 2-3 weeks. I let one sit on the hops for 5 weeks once and it tasted "grassy" and not good.
You can dump them right into the beer or you can sanitize a muslin grain bag and some marbles and drop the whole lot in as well. I've done it both ways. I seem to get better aroma from straight dumping.
only tried it once. Went for a brew I do a lot so I could compare.
I think I over did the quantity a little, but I did get that aroma that I was aiming for. :thumb:
I tried something new this time. Just kegged my Cascade pale ale last night. Before filling the keg, I added to it a sanitized hop bag with 1oz of my 2010 Cascades. I've never dry hopped directly in the keg before. I'll let you know how it goes.
