Hey All

Ive always dry hopped my IPA with around 25g per gallon for about 5 - 7 days. I then take them out and bottle.

Im now going to have a go at adding some hops to my new 19 liter Corny keg and was just wondering how much i need to add? Do i just dry hop as usual and then take them out after 5-7 days and then carbonate or do I just leave them in and get it carbonated straight away? Is it safe to leave them in over the period of 2-3 weeks or however long it takes to polish of 19 liters?

Thanks!

And you just pop it in, carbonate and leave it in until its empty? What if this take a few weeks does it taste ok? You dont start to get off flavors?

Im not sure if I should just leave it in for 7 days at room temperature and then remove the hop bag from the corny and then carbonate?

I've tended to stick a bag in a week or so before I plan to start serving it then remove it when it tastes right.

If you don't put it in a muslin bag - you won't get beer out.

Don't ask how I know.

Thanks all.. Ill try with 20g and just leave it in and see how it goes! Im sure Ill polish it off in 2 weeks so it'll be interesting how it changes and refine it for next time

Cheers!

Depends on the beer but I use at least 28g in my cornies. I also put them in a drawstring bag to avoid clogging the dip tube. I leave the bag in there until the beer is gone. Could be for months. Some people say that hops left too long can give a grassy taste. That has not been my experience.

If I can dispense just once into my corny that it will reduce transferring from one to another reducing oxygenation. I can then just take out the hop bag and then carbonate.. Saves time and washing ;)

If you're gentle/careful then oxygenation shouldn't happen.

In addition, I think the risk is worth taking. You can also fine in secondary meaning the keg only sees perfect beer.

Just my 2c's though and everyone's got their own way.
