I have a small 30 liter sytem which gives me 20liters+ to put in a polypin for me , what would happen if i doubled my grain bill but with the same amount of water during the process (mashing , boiling ect )and then filled 2 FVs with the same amount of wort each one and topped them up with boiled water (i think this is called liquering back, not sure).end result is 2 polypins for me or have i messed up big time ?

cheers boys

You are correct that cutting back is a common practice within the industry but they don't do a double concentrate beer (well not that I am aware of). However I was at an SCB event and a commercial brewer told us that he had a recipe that he had brewed that was for a 90/- but that they had liquored back to 80/-, 70/- and even 60/- (modern strength) so it is entirely possible that it could work.

It would certainly be interesting to see any results if you did try it.

I liquore back all the time :thumb:

The liquore is treated with C tab before adding to the cooled wort.

Make sure you allow for a few more hops as the extraction rate is less with the minimal boil..

Good luck
