Hi

I was wondering if you guys bother to dry your bottles before filling.

I generally use a chlorine based sterilising solution then I rinse very thoroughly with a lot of cold tap water.

I then just fill the bottles as I think what is the harm in a few drops of tap water.

Reason I ask is I've seen those bottle drying trees and thought what's the use of them....

I use a bottle drying tree, after spraying with Starsan. This helps to drain most of the liquid out before filling, it also supports the bottle sprayer.

Essential? No. Handy? Yes.

I do exactly the same, I also find it easier to carry the bottles to where I fill them.

Great thanks for the replies, I'll carry on as I am in that case 😊

If you use Milton baby sterilising tablets you don't need to rinse ive used them for years with no problem.

Another plus is it only needs 15 minutes contact time.

Lol nah, I give them a rinse first (in case there’s any spiders in there out of the shed), then chuck in some VWP in water, swish it round, dump it out, rinse twice more, bish bash bosh, in goes the wine.

Then when they’re sealed I give them a wipe and dry them, because I ALWAYS spill some wine down the sides and standardly get some on my leg lol. Then I dry the outside and leave them for a few hours before I put a crappy label on.

When you consider that beer is perhaps 98% water the odd drop remaining in a bottle after emptying it of the water used for rinsing out the steriliser will make no perceptible difference or in a word nope.

I'm interested in this as well. When people are saying that they don't dry, do they mean after santising or do they mean that they santise and then rinse with water and don't dry.
I was always under the impression that with chemsan and starsan before it you can squirt them into a clean bottle pour out the excess and then get on putting the beer into the bottle with no need to wait for the bottle to dry inside (and with no need to rinse). Some of the answers above have confused me a little, although i admit it doesn't take much :-)

Some sterilisers such as VWP must be rinsed out otherwise they leave a chemical taste/odour behind which taints the beer but after a thorough rinse any remaining drops of water should then be no more than just plain water therefore no problem.

No ,no drying here
I throw all bottles through the dishwasher , submerge in no rinse sanitiser for 5 mins ,empty & fill with beer
