Is the same shop but in Ireland you pay in Euros which can be favourable, you get the same 5% discount for being a forum member if you apply the code.

BUt delivery is more expensive(you don't get free del on orders over £70)

I don't ever get to the £70 order mark.

Delivery is actually cheaper on the .ie site €8.95 or £6.58 (based on todays conversion rate on Google) as opposed to £6.95 on the .co.uk site.

We had a local shop, but it was terrible! Very poor selection in general, but only two types of dried yeast....not two brands, but two choices....one wine, one ale. When I asked the assistant she advised me that the owner would not order any more! Needless to say they've now closed and I believe the girl that worked there has opened a new place, but I've not been yet.

I've used a few online shops but since discovering the homebrewcompany through this forum and with the discount, they've been superb! The service is brilliant, delivery is very quick from Ireland...2 or 3 days MAX and prices very competitive. The .ie site has worked out cheaper for me even including the delivery cost.

Be aware that you can get charged commission for the currency exchange by your bank which can end up making the cost higher.

I believe you have the option of paying in pounds or euro, which would negate this.

Thats a good call Wardy and also something I had not considered, but having now been made aware I have just checked up & found that my bank don't charge commissions on Euro transactions, so still all good for me.

Thanks, I never noticed that option, just saw euro total and asked my bank about charges. It turned out I was paying 70p less on a €195 order so just did it anyway. I suppose 70p is still a saving. I'll check that option on my next order.

Brilliant, I have 2 bank accounts so will check if my First direct account charges commission. Thanks for highlighting that because I just assumed they all must do it.

You probably need to check the exchange rate also. They draw you in with the promise of no commission, but then screw you on the exchange!

There are some banks, I know the Halifax is one, that offer credit cards which guarantee the commercial exchange rate on foreign currency transactions with no commission.
We used ours on our holiday last year and saved a fortune. I use it on all on line purchases in euros as well now. Obviously there is only a saving if you pay the bill in full each month and that is where the bank make their money. The interest rate is a lot more than they would make on commission.

I have just noticed my latest purchase has incurred a charge, I am not sure where the charge came from but it was €1.29, the thing I have just realised is previously I had paid using Paypal (and perhaps choose to take the conversion rate offered by them) and did not incur this charge, lesson learned.

I have an order on the way probably arriving tomorrow. I paid in € and through PayPal after noticing my bank put a big charge on and couldn't find information about fees on my other account. I will check tomorrow to see if a charge was added to the payment.

I ordered some bits on monday don't know which site I went through, but I used paypal I'll have to check the bank account

yes but I have a nationwide credit card which is 0% transaction fee on foreign currencies. other cards are available

I only use it for non sterling transactions as I have a cash back credit card for everything else.
