Hi all,
Does anyone have any tips for how to recognise taste and aroma of different hop varieties, please? Ideally I would be able to purchase very small quantities of all of the different hops, but none of the suppliers I have contacted seem to do this.
I understand that hops in doesn't necessarily equal hops out, as there are numerous factors at play in the final taste and aroma of the beer, but I would find it helpful to be able to recognise individual hops.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Crossmyloof do very small quantities of hops. Down to 10g.

It's not a particularly cost effective way of doing it, but it's an option.

It's a small business, so if you want to order a lot of different varieties, you may be able to contact them and negotiate on price.

First decide on a standard medium for tasting your hops. It should be light and not assertive. You could try a wort of OG 1045 made from pilsner malt or a pale ale malt. You might add up to 10% carapils or caramalt, but keep it simple and keep it standard. Your choice will depend ultimately on the kind of beer you want to make. If you only drink stout its a bit different as the hop flavours interact with the dark malt flavours, keep the latter on the light side.
The homebrew company ireland has 35% off all leaf hops at the moment.
Crossmyloof does 25g packs with up to 45% off for multiple packs.
You might make a big wort and bitter the lot with a neutral hop like magnum and then draw off a few litres for a late and a flamout addition of the target hop. Some styles don't have large additions so you'd need to boil each wort separately.
Either way you're going to have quite a few fermentets on the go at any one time. It all depends on how many hops you want to sample.
