Hi all. I recently started off an extract kit. It came with some steeping grains, dried extract and hop pellets. After those had been boiled up, I poured everything from the pot into the FV because the instructions didn't tell me otherwise! This was just under a week ago. I've been doing some reading online and discovered that most say you should try to filter out the hops and other sediment when transferring to FV.
I know you shouldn't leave beer in the primary FV on the yeast for weeks and weeks, but my original plan was to leave the beer in the FV for 3 weeks from the date of brewing, as per this guide: How Long Should Beer Be In The Primary Fermenter?. That's slightly longer than often recommended, but apparently the extra time helps the yeast clear up byproducts which can cause off flavours. However, I'm now wondering whether I should bottle as soon as it's finished fermenting, to try and get as much of the hops as possible out of the beer as quickly as possible. Just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on this? Do you think the benefits of an extra week in the fermenter (3 rather than 2) will be outweighed by the downsides of the beer being in with all the hops for that time?
It's meant to be a Belgian blonde, 10-11L batch, believe it was was 55g of hops pellets, 2kg DME and a big-fist-sized bag of steeping grains.
Cheers!
