Is the beer itelf denser and darker? The more proteins in the beer from the malt the thicker and stickier your head will be. So if you brew an American Barleywine after a light larger, you will get a thicker darker head.

My last brew (my first AG brew) was a Mild based on Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby, this one is a Bitter based on Boddingtons so I'd expect it to be lighter. I guess as long as it's not ringing any alarm bells with anyone I'll wait and see what happens.

I guess I was a little worried having read about people saying that sometimes the yeast head can collapse into the beer???

One thing I have learnt, if the fermenter smells good when you lift the lid, then your on your way to have a great brew.
