Hi all.

Very new to homebrew. And think I may have made a big error.

I washed my demi john with hot water and washing up liquid and left to soak.

Then added some sterilising solution to aid getting some marks off the inside...planning on rising the bottles out and sterilising again.

But I forgot.

After a few hours I gave the glass a good rinse and proceeded to make my kit.

Have I ruined the brew?

What steriliser did you use?

Was the steriliser in contact with the glass for the amount of time it is supposed to be?

Oxidising bleaches work well for cleaning inside DJ's, rinse out as much crud as you can and just let them steep with it inside them for 30 mins or so, rinse well then sanitize.

I left the steriliser in for 4 hours? More than usual - it was just that the water also had washing up detergent in it as well.

You might want to make or buy a twisty wire brush that you can get into the DJ with. I would think if you rinsed all liquids thoroughly out of the inside of the DJ everything will be ok, good luck.

One of the best things I have bought http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=55227

I used to struggle to get the crud out of the inside shoulder with my bottle brush, its now a 30 second job including pouring the water in.

Long grain rice works well too and acts as a scourer.

When emptying just pour the water through a sieve so the rice doesn't clog your sink. Buy value stuff and it's not too expensive to be throwing away.

Doesn't sterilise obviously but does help get rid of those stubborn collections inside the demijohn

I bought some second hand djs and a pressure barrel, all needed a deep clean. I found that putting sponge inside soaked in warm water and oxi inside and shaking vigorously did then trick. Then rinse and sterilise.
Good work out at the same time!

Not easy, turn it upside down and pull out. It will come out. For dj i had a small sponge or you can cut a little bigger than the hole.
