So my father has decided he wants to brew cider this summer - can anyone recommend a decent book on the subject? I know there's loads of information on here (that's how I learnt to brew - no need for a book when you can get real time feedback) but he's a little less technologically savvy than myself and it's his birthday coming up so I need to get him something anyway!

I'm particularly interested in books on how to undertake the whole process yourself (right down to growing / buying apples and pressing them) rather than turbo cider type recipes (apologies if that's the wrong terminology).

Anything with a DIY-bias would also be good. I know he's keen to try and build his own press.

I haven't read them or looked at them but hopefully a pointer in the right direction. :thumb:

I've had the first one recommended to me as well. I tend to go via tinterweb though at the moment using http://www.cider.org.uk/ - they have loads of links on there, not sure if any books but worth a look :thumb:

I'd also recommend Real Cider Making (Pooley and Lomax) - it's the first book I got, and had everything I needed as a beginner, and some more advanced stuff in there too.

Craft Cider Making by Andrew Lea, Good Life Press.
Lea was at the National Fruit and Cider Institute for 13 years... He's made a lot of cider!
Much of the content is on www.cider.org.uk but it's nice to have it in book form.
HomeFarmer had it on offer a while back, it's theoretically a tenner now but probably available cheaper
