Hi

I have a cygnet boiler and I bought a 1/2" ball valve to replace the existing tap. When I removed the old tap into noticed the hole is an unusual shape and too big. I was thinking of keeping the existing tap and drilling a new hole for the 1/2 " ball valve. Is this OK? I will have 2 taps
Thanks

2 taps is no problem, and can provide an emergency drain should you try draining prematurely for your hop filtration.

Rather than drill a 20mm hole for a 1/2" bsp tap fitting use a qmax punch, way easier needing only a smaller pilot hole and it produces a nice clean hole.

however you could fit the hole with bigger fittings and employ a reducing nipple or bush to fit the 1/2" tap.

I use a Cygnet 27 litre boiler.

A 1/2 inch bsp stainless ball valve will fit. I used a female one with a nipple and a flanged nut on the outside.I used a stainless nut and washer on the inside. Then silicone oven mats for the seals, just cut them to size.

If you choose a reasonable length nipple you can then fit a pickup tube or filter or whatever you use.

The pics aren't the best, but they do kind of show it.

Other mods include swapping the thermostat with a simmer stat.

Thanks....think I will go down the 2 tap route as this way I won't have to buy anything else

All working perfect...I used a 5mm drill bit and a cone cutters

Probably a dumb question, but why are the original taps no good as the are designed to pour hot liquids.

Can't attach a hose so you have to use an auto syphon instead and for some reason the last 3 auto syphon I bought all broke on first go
