Hello everybody peeps

Years ago when I started brewing I used milk bottle crates that took 12 bottles and stacked very nicely.

More recently I've really struggled to get crates that stack and have even made MDF crates using a pattern I found somewhere on the interwebs. All of them have been compromises - even the milk crates I bought on ebay, which nearly stacked but keep snagging the bottle tops on the crate below; but 20 bottles is just too heavy to lug about comfortably.

However, I've now seen some 12 bottle crates on ebay that are new, and also have the option to be customised with 2 rows of text.

I've ordered some for me, but wondered if anyone else had seen this or had any thoughts?

The pictures from the ebay listing are tiny

but this is similar:

I'm going to post a review when I get mine ...

Anyway, the ebay listing is here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Milk-Wine...8751703?pt=Home_Brew&var=&hash=item84baf60ddb

There we go, silent since I joined and 2 posts in one day .... I'm coming out of my shell :-)

Yes, I'd spotted them with some interest, as i've got a number of misfit crates of this type which are good for the old pint screw-in top lemonade bottles and also take Fischer 680ml swing-tops.

Be keen to hear your feedback on them. Maybe we could have some Home Brew Forum commemorative crates made?

Tempting- I've bought a load of plastic storage containers from Morrisons £8 for two- they hold about 20 bottles and are stackable, a few weeks ago they had 2 for £3 that were a bit smaller but still held 17 bottles.

An alternative

Ohh I like the look of those! My employer has started putting a £5 deposit on crates not returned on the dray.. so this works out better as I'll acutally OWN them....

Has anyone tried these yet? I think I need to get a few more crates so that I can start making a good stock of AG brews, in order to give them a fair conditioning time. I reckon I need at least 9 more crate to add to the 7 I currently have.

they do look perfect for my sort of use,

as a side note i worked for a plastics factory in the early 1990's and we used to chop up about 60 tonnes a day of beer crates, the crates went to plastic pipes and the beer bottles went into a glass recycling lorry. yep straight from the brewery by the lorry loads, bottles and crates, must have smashed millions of bottles and even more crates.

just one of those lorry loads now is proberly worth a small fortune if i own one

I remeber every bofire night at a local fireworks display they used to burn a lorry load of wooden beer crates. My dad would collect a few for storage I think he still has them. Could have just done with about 30 of them now. Oh well.

Has anyone purchased any of these yet? They look alot like the ones Joseph Holts use.

I've been a very naughty boy  last spend on the brewery for a while - however I did buy a tube heater for the FV cupboard as well ;)

How many ? :hmm:

I think you will now need a fork lift in the brewery as well

When the bottom of one the cardboard boxes got soggy during the last brew and I picked it up and several bottles smashed (clean ones of course :x ) I went a bit OTT and bought 30. However I had already snaffled the last 4 before the stock level was adjusted on ebay so 34 in total

I already have a half a dozen milk crates but these are not full bottle height so can't be stacked.
