Hey all,
I just cracked open a fresh wlp007 yeast to make a starter. I noticed it looked a little curdled but carried on as usual. For the few few hours it fizzed away and has now just kind of stopped and it looks a little lifeless? Any ideas? Ill leave it overnight to see if anything happens but it's not looking great.

I made around 500ml of 1040 solution using granulated sugar

Thanks

you did use sugar... bad idea for starters- they forget how to chew up maltose in beer and its low in nutrients so they pass out a bit easy... know for next time- probably ok tbh
just leave 48hrs and see if the wee blighters wake up a tad, maybe some nutrients would help?
tbh i dont see why peeps bother with starters if brewing a 1.05 ish beer and using yeast in the sell by dates, seems to just introduce errors, mind u im generally after the yeasty compounds and ram all my cold break in for extra nutrients (shame the chill haze is ridiculous)

Thank you for the info chaps, it seems to be active again thank god, also just added some nutrient. I usually use Spay malt but I didn't have any, should have just used my wort ug :|
