Oh learned ones, may I cast this question before ye;
Just when I think I'm getting the hang of it.....now on brew kits 4 and 5, Youngs lager and Coopers English bitter with appropriate enhancers rather than sugar for each.
Have done the lager twice before and very pleased with the results, but have noticed that the time line was slightly different this time round. Namely, fermentation rocketed off on day 1, slowed right down day 2 and just dribbled along days 3, 4 and 5, today being day five for both brews. At the end of day 2 gave both brews a gentle stir to liven up the yeasties as temperature was down to around 17-18°C and whilst doing so some of the 'crust' around the FV dislodged into the precious wort. It's now floating in rather nasty looking clumps on the surface and I assume is deceased yeast. So, question; Is this bad news for the brew or am I panicking over nothing?

Thats fine and not a problem at all. You needn't worry.

When you transfer your beer out of the fermenter into your bottles / keg / bottling bucket try and avoid transferring the lumps as well.

Ah, thank you. :thumb:
I can now rest easy and look forward to cleaning and sterilising 80 bottles in a few days time!
