Hi all

I'm quite new to this wonderful game. I'm after a little advice. I recently finished my first two batches for 30 bottle brews. First was a Californian Conissuer Sav Blanc andante a Pinot Noir.

The both batches were bottled into a mixture of old tradition and screw cap wine bottles. When closing the first batch I used waxed corks but didn't read the instruction before using and soaked them in boiling water to sterilise. The second batch I again used waxed corks, followed the instructions and just rinsed in sterilising solution.

Both batches we bottled 3 weeks ago. Both wines are amazing. My only concern was that when I opened both wines the corks came out a lot easier than I was expecting. Am I doing something wrong?

Cheers

The inside diameter of a screwtop is a little wider, so corks will come out easier. If you want to reuse screwtops, keep hold of the top as well as the bottle, and just put the top back on. It's a lot less hassle and works fine in my experience.
