I put one of these on 10 days ago as recommended:

Coopers Traditional Draught kit
Coopers Light (liquid) Malt Extract (1.5Kg)
and I added 2 teaspoons of Youngs yeast nutrient
Made to 23 litres
started at 22 degrees and dropped to 19 degrees

After 7 days the OG went from 1040 to 1012.

It never had much of a krausen at any time, maybe a couple of inches during days 2 and 3. It is still fairly cloudy compared to the other Coopers kits I've brewed - is this the Malt Extract perhaps?

I recon it'll be at its FG by the weekend, but should I leave it another week to clear up? I'm concerned that I leave it too long in the FV and cause other problems.

Note I have had a taste of the samples for gravity checks and it tastes fine, there is an eggy smell but I understand this is to be expected and will clear when conditioning.

Thoughts?

Bottled yesterday.......a few more weeks to wait until :drink:

It was very dark and not as clear as the last few brews I've done though.

I bottled on the 23rd of March, then 2 weeks warm and the last 2 in the garage. I couldn't resist opening one tonight and it's a very nice brew. Good flavour, much richer than the Coopers lager, a little hint of malt and hops, very nice indeed! I have primed a few of these differently as a trial, this one was 1 and 1/2 tsp of dextrose and it's got plenty fizz, I recon in another couple of weeks it'll have settled and be perfect!

Just an update 2 months on - a lovely malty lagery flavour and a very toght packed lasting head. I can't recommend this enough! If you like beers like San Miguel you'll love this.

Hi all

Tried a bottle of this today as it has been bottled for 2 weeks and I was moving the lot from the warmth of upstairs to cool and condition in the cupboard downstairs. Made with a 1.5kg can of LME as recommended, I have to say it is a very, very good pint and after around 6 weeks I expect it to be absolutely fantastic. Would definitely brew this again.

I brewed this kit three times at between 4.8% and about 2% ABV by varying the additional fermentables. I dry hopped them all with citra. The low alcohol version I did was casked and it was a great refreshing drink to accompany meals when you didn't want to be squiffed. It had great flavour even without high alcohol - FAR better than drinking even the best zero alch drinks like Becks Blue, but not much more effect unless you drank pints of it.

The full strength brews I did with brew enhancer (1kg) one with Coopers and one with Muntons BE. I liked the Munton's better - more malty flavour. I tested them side by side and sip by sip with my eldest son and we both liked the Munton's better. It is a golden colour - darker than a larger by a good bit and the Muntons BE darkens it further than the Coopers BE.

I have one case of this left and will have some on Friday with a curry.

An excellent kit I think, but I prefer the Coopers IPA - especially when dry hopped with citra (20g in 23litres for five days).

Cheers

Tony
