Ok, even though I dont have another keg or enough bottles yet I decided to get my second brew on the go making use of my fv. I used the coopers kit along with 1kg beer enhancer and 180g of Black Treacle. I was going to use this to prime but I thought I would get it in the mix now... (Please say other people have done the same!)

I pitched the yeast on what I think was around 25-26c of a short 21L brew . (I haven't bought a thermometer yet!) I did however check my hydrometer that gave me an SG of 1040. Had a taste and whilst it was nice the black treacle was very prominent.

I'm now wondering what I can get down to for final gravity now... hoping to get down to at least 1008.

One last thing Ive put my Wilkos fv in a bin liner as its down in the dining room (didnt want to risk the bedroom with this one!) as I have not airlock/ release on my "bucket"... hope I don't regret this move but I was itching to start this tonight.

Any comments tip greatly appreciated. I'm going to try and get my hands on a load of brown bottles over the next few days... failing that Im going to have to buy another keg and part keg, part bottle (like my Wherry which is my first brew and just over 1.5 weeks in the keg/ bottle (not even tasted it yet!)

By the way what would people suggest priming with? (I have brewing sugar and black treacle left (which could be a mess for bottling unless I can batch prime in my fv.

Gota love the stout and treacle. I did the coopers last year and it was great and I have just bottled a wilko stout with treacle. As to priming I would suggest cheapest sugar is fine. There was a thread here lastbweekmdiscussing the different flavours that could be imparted using diff sugars but as its so little I don't think it's worth it myself.

I would defiantly suggest grabbing a beer and having a search on here for topics that you have an interest in. Coopers stout and treacle has been discussed plenty. No offence this is a very friendly place but most of the answers have already been given :thumb:

Thanks for the advise, I have has a little trawl of the forums but Im planning plenty more reading on the run up to Xmas. Really hoping my Wherry and Stout work out so it motivates me to try out my next two (want to try an IPA and a Porter)

Heres to Xmas drinking

I have not been disappointed by a kit yet . Some are fantastic. Some are great. And some are better than shop bought at the least. Coopers selection ipa is very good. :thumb:

I've ordered a king keg from my lhbs along with an s30 cylinder so should have this stout safe an sound in there shortly (will bottle a dozen bottles) looking forward to it immensely.

Try leaving it in the FV a little (lot) longer than normal: my Coopers Stout went down the 1.009 but that was after 28 days in the FV (normally leave it 14-16 days).

Coopers Stout is a cracking kit, started homebrewing 2 years ago and still do it regularly. Prefer it bottled to in a keg tho.
