hi guys and gals...

i done my coopers australian lager today...

all the sanitising done...
so lets begin...
in went the 500g extra light spray malt with 4 pints of boiling water...
followed by the lager kit ...
giving it all a dam good stir...

then the cold water ...
trying so hard not to have it to hot ...
i thought things were going to good ...
then disaster struck...

i saw the reading on the fv .. .
what a knob head...
i had over filled it to 24.5 ltrs... .

with a reading of 1.032

so i had no choice but put the yeast in...
and hope i havent fecked it up completely

its now sat at 21/22c...

so i hope it will still be ok .... :hmm:

regards mick... :hat: .

That's gonna be a 20 pinter session beer :D

Out of curiosity, how do you know it's 24.5? Looks like it's just under 5 gallons in the pic (23L).

Did you add additional sugar, or just 500g of spraymalt?

That's your problem there bud. You're a minimum of 500g off the mark. You need to add 1kg of additionals to most kits.

Although, IMO, I would always recommend adding 1kg of brewing sugar PLUS 500g of DME. So, if you add 1kg of brewing sugar tomorrow (or if you have it handy), you should end up with a nice 5% brew :D

Did you miscalculate the volume? In the pics it's showing 5 gallons, which is spot on :)

As I said, I'd go with a kilo... but it's up to yourself.

500g should see you around 1.038 which will be good for around 4.1%.
1kg should see around 1.045 which will be good for 5.0%.

Up to yourself what you are after :)

ok thanks again scott... :thumb: .

iv just put 1kg of brewing sugar in water and boiled it ...
then cooled it back down and added it to the fv ...
gave it a good stir ...now its done ...

Sounds good, it's down slightly as you're just over the 5 gallon mark. You'll still see near enough 5% anyway :)

thanks scott... :thumb: .
but im not to botherd by the % i get ...
as long as it looks and tastes good .. :) .

It should be absolutely fine mick,
You added 500gm of LDME and 1kg of brewing sugar too wich is better than the kit requires.
It only really requires 1kg of fermentables and some people only use table sugar to get a fair pint, as you've used DME and brewing sugar im sure it'll be a fab pint.

I bet you won't do it again!

This thread had me a tad worried as I have the same kit in the FV and its my first ever.

I brewed it to 22L with 500g light DME, 500g Coopers Beer enhancer 2 and standard kit yeast. My OG 1.039.

It has been foaming away nicely for two days so far but was concerned I was short on fermentable after reading this thread but it should be fine.

Hopefully we both end up with something drinkable!

It might not be as high as you want it ABV wise, but it'll be a cracking pint brewed with those ingredients so don't worry :)
