Hi,
not tried any of the Coopers kits, but really fancy trying the Irish Stout, just wonderd if anyone can give me any tips as to how i can get the best from this kit, i know some people have tried mixing in a dark syrup?

Is it best in a keg or bottle?

iian.

i brewed the coopers brewmaster irish stout and its in the corny keg just now, had a few pints from it and im very impressed. the instructions say to use 500grams of sugar/dextrose and 500grams of dark spraymalt. i used 1 kg of dark spraymalt and shortened it to 19 litres. other folk have used dark treacle aswell and have thought it as better than guiness.

I'm just driking a Coopers Stout, brewed with a tin of Coopers Dark Malt Extract. As you can tell from the head, it's a bit lively, has only been in the keg a week and a half, but tastes wonderful...even the missus likes it. As others have said, better than Guiness IMHO. Know I should leave it longer but it's Christmas :D Have filled 12 bottles as well, so will be interesting to see how well it develops as we get into Jan, although very pleased with the brew already.

my glass is better than yours :D

I brewed down to 18l for my corny, I did the 1kg dark spayed malt let it ferment out racked and left for a couple of weeks to clear, forced carbonated last night. I drunk Guiness for years and this is better it taste nice and like licqorice and treacle, and if like all coopers kits i have done previous it should get even better with time :thumb:

thanks everyone for the info, looking forward to giving this one a go next week soon as my local homebrew shop opens in the new year.

Thanks all

ditto to all the other replies, first stout kit i did, i used 1kg beer enhancer as sold in the brew shops, to date the best i have brewed by a long way, better left for a while (if poss!) better than anything you get in pubs and not just my opinion, everyone i gave this brew to try all nagged me for more.

I have been sceptical about doing 1 can kits for stout. i normally do 1 can kits for lager, and 2 can kits for ales and stouts. However, I have heard consistently good reviews of this kit, so i might have to give it a go.

though i was planning to go extract after xmas...

I've got one in my brewing box to go on once the Admirals is bottled. I've got medium spraymalt and I was going to chuck in a tin of treacle with the wort and also batch prime with treacle for bottling.

Do you reckon that'll work or should I pop into the LHBS and pick up some dark spraymalt?

I bottled a batch of this a few weeks ago. I made it with 1kg of bog standard brewing sugar and it turned out great. I'm sure using other (more expensive) ingredients improves it but it can only be an incremental improvement.

my two pence worth:

to brew 23l get a 33l ferment bin cos it will grow a monster foam headed beast!

keg to drink it sooner, bottle to drink it later i'd say

tweak if you want to,anyway you choose, i'd do it as per instructions first time to be honest, they're great tasting kits

agreed, when i brewed this the 2nd time i brewed well short of 23 lt and then liquored up to 23 lt after 1st fermentation, the 1st time i brewed it i filled to 23 lt as per instructions and it went everywhere, wife wasn't impressed!

Think i will brew this as suggested with 500 grams of dark dry malt extract and 300 grams of brewing sugar, see how this goes.

With it being a Stout i wonder if it might taste better bottled, then again if i keg it should get a better head on the Beer?

the head is not bad when pouring from the cornie although it wont be like a guiness as i believe they use a mix of nitrogen and co2 when pouring.
