got this one on the go this afternoon with 500g of light dme and 600g of brewing sugar, set the heater to 20c
will check in a weeks time to see how its going. brewed it short to 20 lts. og reading was 1043.
the smell was very citrus, reminded me of old golden hen, we shall see.....
 
that's good, its been on the go 24 hours and just starting to get going, I'm guessing this is normal though even at 20c
I remember the coopers stout took a while to get going but when it did it when crazy.
 
Hi Blackwood how did troopers stout turn out I've jut put one on this afternoon ???
 
it was really nice, I used 1kg of extra dark DME. fermentation was over in 7 days I think it was around 4%.
really nice flavour, had a slight after taste of liquorice. Have got another one of these kits in stock waiting to be made.
I kept back 5 bottles for long time maturing, now nearly 4 months old. so we shall see how the flavour develops.
 
barrelled up this one a week ago, racked off one gallon in to a demi john and left it for a week to clear. bottled it up this afternoon to keep for long term maturing with about 2g of brewing sugar per pint. about 25 pints in the barrel with 80g of brewing sugar.
 
Just got this one started today. Used 500g of muntons light spray malt, 500g of dextrose and a small jar of honey.
Brewed to 21.5 litres with og reading of 1045
Smelt beautiful!
 
I done one of these at the end of Jan 700 G beer enhancer 500 G of brewing sugar brewed 18 litres OG 1050 FG 1004 not tried it yet bottles only went out to garage on Sunday. Never had brew get a FG below 1008 before this.

Beechwood bottled my stout last week and yes I did get a very slight wiff of licourice and when tasted it was well very nice.

My first Cooper's Bitter was brewed before I found this forum, as such I followed the instructions and used 1 kilo of table sugar.....

Finished at 0.990 :eek:

Didn't taste too bad, so after I'd picked up some advice I brewed it a few more times, finally settling on using 1kg of the Coopers brew enhancer and (if I've got it to hand) 500g of DME, I also make up a little hop tea from Fuggles and use that to help dilute the final brew. It takes the standard tin + brew enhancer from good to most excellent :)

What ABV did that ^^ work out at then?

I got about over 5.5% from my concoction of 1 can + 1kg brew enhancer + 5oog of some dry malt extract I had handy.
 
The calculator gave just under 5%. I was unable to measure the OG as it was in a tub in which I couldn't see the hydrometer.
