Hi folks,

I am new to this forum and have recently brewed Coopers Australian Pale Ale. I used 1kg of Coopers Brew Enhancer and a packet of Coopers Light Dry Malt (cant remember the weight) I also added a handful of hops on the recommendation of the owner of my local homebrew shop.

Opening gravity was 1.047 and it finished at 1.012 7 days later. I then bottled adding a Tate and Lyle sugar cube to each 500ml bottle for priming.

After 7 days in the bottle I couldn't resist and put two bottles in the fridge and drank them an hour later. The taste was good, full of flavour also a nice aroma, the head was decent too and not too gassy.

Impressed with only my second ever brew (first was Brewmaster Yorkshire bitter last year which was decent) I went to bed a happy man. However the next morning I had the worst case of the trots I have had in years. It almost definitely wasnt anything I ate as I had eaten the same as my family that day and they were fine.

Is my brew off? Or have I just started drinking it too soon?

I obviously don't want to have too pour the rest out as it tasted fine and I have 42 * 500ml bottles of it. However the after effects the next morning were pretty severe.

I hope this is not a stupid question, Id be grateful for some advice.

Welcome Along

Yes 7 days is a bit too early to start drinking, was it clear the beer?? if not you most likely drank some yeast which gives people the trots :thumb:

Most people will leave 1-2 weeks in warm area to carbonate the beer then 2-3 weeks more in cooler area to condition

It was relatively clear, but not entirely. It had spent a week at room temperature, on top of the wardrobe in my bedroom.

Thanks for the welcome.
